Q&A with Zuhair Murad
What are you doing at this time for self-care?
Of course, rule number one to prevent the spread is to wash our hands frequently and properly. For me, this has become an obsession because I spend my days washing my hands, even though I am not really in contact with anything…! I am following a consistent schedule to stay healthy, respecting rules like hydrating continually, as well as starting daily activities and making the correct food choices to support our health. It’s also important to try and turn these choices into habits that hopefully lead to lifelong health improvements. Finally, just as we are increasingly looking out for our physical health, we should equally take care of our mental health by staying calm and positive. The most important factor is to look at the bright side of things, and remember that this is only temporary.
What are you watching, reading and listening to?
I am mainly listening to our national diva Feyrouz’s beautiful and meaningful songs. I am also watching a very long list of movies and series I never got the chance to watch that include: The Two Popes, The Green Book, The Greatest Showman, The Hustle, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Spy.
What’s your favourite comfort food?
I don’t have a specific favorite, during these times I occasionally find comfort in snacking to make time pass. However, I am focused on trying to increase my immune system by balancing eating healthier and providing my body with the right nutrients. It is important to not get too carried away with food, but also to not over restrict ourselves – it’s all about finding that right balance
What’s your favourite cocktail/wine?
I love white wine in general, especially, The Corteze di Gavi. However, we have to watch out because we are exaggerating a bit on the drinking process. Apperitivo has become a daily habit!
Are there any charities that you are supporting in the wake of Covid-19?
We ‘re supporting the Lebanese Red Cross who is doing a tremendous job 24/7 during this pandemic. Those young volunteers are an example to everyone. You cannot imagine under which difficult conditions they are saving lives. The least we can do is to recognise and support them by being thoughtful and making charitable donations.
What is something new that you have tried while being home? OR Have you engaged in any new activities/started any new hobbies while being home?
I now have the time to read the books I had always wanted to read. I also have time to take a walk in my garden and enjoy a simple daily routine with my family, things that usually life gets in the way of!
Is there any advice on how to stay motivated that you’d like to
I think having a routine helps structure your day and gives you a sense of purpose. I would also recommend creating a list of “at-home-things” you would like to get done during these times and try to check off at least one per day.
