Sophie Ashby grew-up between South Africa, London and Devon. She studied History of Art at Leeds before moving to New York to study interior design at Parsons. Each of these different experiences has fed her understanding of the power and possibility of design and craftsmanship: from the vast nature of the South African landscape to the small rooms of an Edwardian house in the city, the urban intensity of New York to the rural charm of the English countryside.
Following her studies in New York, Sophie’s strong architectural and design sensibility continued to develop, along with her personal curiosity for “beautiful things”, with sound mentorship from classical interior designer Victoria Fairfax. Sophie then headed up the interiors team at creative agency Spring & Mercer, developing her style and establishing a strong client base and network of suppliers and collaborators.
In 2014, Sophie decided to branch out on her own, founding interior design and creative direction practice, Studio Ashby at the age of 25. The successful company has now grown to become a dynamic group of twelve experienced designers, working across residential and commercial interior design and creative direction in the UK, Europe and further afield.
Sophie is fascinated by a sense of place and the idea of home. Art has been a constant love in her life, always the heart of her creative vision - with many projects originating with an artwork around which an interior is built and the narrative journey starts.
Today Sophie lives in Notting Hill with her partner Charlie. She is a Young Patron of the Royal Academy of Arts and alongside her work she is learning the art of photography and gradually building a burgeoning art collection for herself.
